Year 6

Welcome to Year 6!

Year 6 is an important year in primary school. It marks a key transition from primary to secondary education. In preparation for secondary school Year 6 helps students to develop the academic, social, and emotional skills they will need for secondary school. They learn greater independence and responsibility.

During their final year in primary school, students take Standard Assessment Tests (SATs) in English and Maths. These results help determine their academic progress throughout primary school.

Being the oldest in the school, Year 6 students take on leadership roles, such as school councillors and become role models to the younger children.

Year 6 is a year where children can continue to build their confidence and independence. They are encouraged to develop problem-solving skills, resilience, and confidence as they prepare for the more demanding environment of secondary school.

During their final year in primary school children are encouraged to develop friendships and social skills. It is a crucial time for forming and maintaining friendships before moving on to different secondary schools. Year 6 is a demanding year for pupils but they are rewarded with school trips and leavers’ assemblies to celebrate achievements!
