Cultural Capital
Cultural capital refers to the knowledge, skills, and experiences that students acquire through their cultural background and upbringing, which can influence their academic success and broader engagement in society. At Woodhouse Primary Academy, we recognise that each of our pupils is an individual and that their cultural background and upbringing will not only bring diversity to our school community but is hugely formative to each child’s future. At Woodhouse Primary Academy, we understand and value cultural capital, recognising that it is essential in creating a inclusive and equitable school. This will help our children to flourish, and improve outcomes for all.
At Woodhouse Primary Academy we wish to build on the cultural experiences that the children bring to our school and seek to provide further skills, knowledge and experiences to further enrich each child’s ‘cultural capital’.
We have identified key opportunities through our curriculum to build upon our children’s experiences, skills and knowledge with local area studies wherever possible. In addition we have carefully identified and planned key opportunities to provide experiences, visits and visitors for our children, from the very youngest to the oldest, all of which are outlined in our ‘Enrichment Passport’.
