Year 1

Welcome to Year 1!

Year 1 is an exciting year group here at Woodhouse Primary Academy. It promises to be full of opportunities to explore and learn as well as being creative and curious! Year 1 is the stepping stone in the children’s educational journey, in which they will build on the skills and knowledge they developed throughout their time in EYFS.

Over the course of the year, children will develop their skills and understanding across a wide range of subjects. Our aim is to support children to holistically thrive in a stimulating yet supportive and nurturing environment; one in which they can discover their interests, talents and develop life-long skills – including self-belief and resilience. Children will engage in subjects and activities on the National Curriculum, as well as participating in activities that foster a love of learning through play and hands-on learning experiences.

A strong emphasis is placed on phonics and reading in Year 1 as we prepare for the Phonics Screening Check in Summer term. This is carefully balanced with developing a love of reading to ensure that all children have the necessary skills they need to thrive in Year 1 and beyond.

We can’t want to share our successes with you as we go on our learning journey throughout Year 1 here at Woodhouse Primary Academy!
